Nutrition Innovation is proud to announce that it has been awarded as a Global Finalist at the 2023 Mass Challenge for Sustainable Food Solutions.

Mass Challenge believes start-ups and corporations can help this effort. Startups can play a unique role in bringing new disruptive ideas to the table. Corporations can play a critical role in scaling these ideas and bringing benefits to society quickly. The 2023 Challenge involved major global leaders such as the Bühler Group, Givaudan, Nestlé, DSM, the Louis Dreyfus Company, and Südzucker. Their role was to review the over 500 entries to identify the very best innovations, start-ups or scaleups, with proven solutions or technologies in the areas of Sustainable Food, Feed Solutions, Sustainable Supply Chain & Manufacturing, Sustainable Packaging, and Agri Tech innovations.

Nucane Low-GI sugar Awarded another National patent. Now India!

Nutrition Innovation has announced that it has been awarded another National patent in relation to the Process to Manufacture Nucane Low-GI sugar.  The latest patent was granted in India which produces around 35 million tonnes of sugar and has the world's largest domestic market. This milestone in India follows earlier awards of the same patent in Australia, North America and Indonesia.

 "This particular patent describes our innovative and clearly unique Closed-Loop automated system for efficiently and consistently producing specifications of raw sugar including, Nucane Low-GI Sugar, and other sugars that need more consistent features, such as a standardised ICUMSA. We are looking forward to launching Nucane Low GI Sales in India with our partners EID PARRY (INDIA) LTD in 2023." said Chairman and Founder of Nutrition Innovation, Dr. David Kannar. "Importantly, our efficient and automated process, which has already been deployed in major markets, may help to reduce Scope 3 carbon emission impacts from producing heavily refined white sugar. New Research indicates that the "Nucane Low Gi Specification" positively impacts Satiety

Research published by the International Science Journal "Nutrition" and conducted by Azlan et al (2022) investigated the patented "Nucane Low GI Specification" of minimally refined brown sugar (MRBS) and reported that it resulted in a significant difference in satiety profiles.

Highlights of the research include:

  • The glycemic index value of MRBS was less than that of refined sugar (RS).

  • MRBS showed better glycemic profiles compared with RS according to glucagon values.

  • The satiety profiles for MRBS were less than those of RS according to peptide tyrosine and C-peptide values.

  • The consumption of MRBS jelly showed higher total antioxidant capacity values compared with RS jelly.

The Nucane Low GI Specification is made in Malaysia by industry leaders, Central Sugars (CSR) and is sold to millions of consumers in Singapore and Malaysia as "Better Brown". Nucane is also marketed and manufactured around the world including Australia, Thailand, India, Central America and Southern Africa. Nucane has been recognised as a breakthrough by the United Nations Food Summit in 2021.

The GI Foundation publishes a summary of 20 years of science on the Glycemic Index


The Australian based, GI Foundation, has published a new report that compiles more than 20 years of published scientific evidence on the glycemic index. The conclusion is that it has found that a low GI diet is key to reducing weight gain and the prevention and management of lifestyle related chronic disease.

Key findings indicate that there is a clear link between a Low GI diet and improvements in:

Weight Management

A low GI diet can help you lose weight and keep it off.

Cardiovascular Disease

A low GI diet can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease,

Diabetes.

A low GI diet can reduce the risk of Type 2 diabetes by up to 90%.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

A low GI diet can help improve symptoms of PCOS.

Cancer risk.

There is emerging evidence that a low GI diet is linked to a reduced risk of certain cancers including prostate, kidney and breast cancer.
